Who am I? My name is Scott Michael Westmoreland Jr.—an artist, designer, musician, and, above all else, a storyteller based in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina. As a creative, I see art as something deeply spiritual—one of the most powerful ways we connect with God and with each other. At its core, the act of creation is about expression, wonder, and sharing something that didn’t exist before, and that belief continues to guide both my work and my perspective.
2024 Adobe National Competition
Over the past three years, I’ve worked as a freelance designer and artist, building a wide range of creative projects across branding, illustration, and UX design. Alongside this, I’ve spent the past year performing as a professional bassist with my band, The B-Sides, playing live shows and developing both a musical and visual identity for the group. My experience spans national design competitions, leading creative teams, and working as both an illustrator and creative director. Throughout that journey, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from many talented creatives and mentors—people I remain deeply grateful for.

So why the name Kestrel? The kestrel serves as my creative persona and personal symbol, inspired by my fascination with nature—especially birds of prey. The American kestrel, in particular, is small yet striking: sharp, focused, and capable of soaring with precision and grace. Its vibrant plumage and bold presence mirror the qualities I strive for in my work—attention to detail, clarity of vision, and a sense of individuality. And, admittedly, the touch of ginger in its feathers doesn’t hurt either . . .
