The Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center App is a collaborative UX/UI project designed to enhance the visitor experience while honoring the rich creative legacy of Black Mountain College. Developed over a four-week sprint, our team set out to translate the museum’s historical depth—rooted in the influence of the Bauhaus—into an engaging, accessible mobile experience. The goal was to bridge past and present, making the museum’s content more immersive for modern audiences.
Working as part of a large design team—Yessenia Castellanos, Noah Delacruz, Dylan Garcia, Mallory Franklin, Jessica Gakeri, Jack Keller, and Moriah Wells—we conducted research through museum analysis, user personas, empathy mapping, and user journey development. These insights revealed a need for clearer navigation, stronger storytelling, and more interactive engagement. My role focused on map and logo design, as well as contributing to wireframes and the conceptualization and execution of augmented reality features alongside Noah Delacruz.
The resulting app experience centers on interactivity and accessibility. Key features include an intuitive museum map for wayfinding, curated audio tours, a searchable collection database, and an events calendar. A standout innovation is the AR-enhanced tour system, which allows users to interact with digital overlays tied to real-world exhibits—bringing historical works and moments to life in a gamified, exploratory format inspired by contemporary mobile experiences.
Through iterative prototyping in Figma and usability testing with potential users—including museum staff—we refined the app’s information architecture and visual design to better align with user expectations. The final product presents a cohesive and modern interface that supports exploration, education, and engagement. Overall, the project demonstrates a thoughtful blend of research, collaboration, and creative problem-solving—resulting in a digital experience that meaningfully extends the museum’s mission into an interactive space.
